One of the best ideas for squeezing more space into a small home is to add built-in storage between the studs. Usually you’ll see built-ins in the living and family rooms, perhaps flanking a fireplace as you often see in traditional Craftsman homes. But if you’re really in need of every inch of extra space to store your home library, you can make use of the space around the staircase. Whether you squeeze shelves under the stairs, build a bookshelf into a landing, or follow the line of the entire staircase, in most homes there’s a lot of additional space you can mine to house your collection. Check out these creative examples I’ve picked for this week’s Reading Spaces!
