2. The Help

3. Gone Girl

4. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

5. Oryx and Crake

6. As I Lay Dying

7. The Tiger’s Wife

8. Let the Great World Spin

9. The Poisonwood Bible

Top Ten Tuesday: Other Types of Stories

As always, TTT is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s topic: other types of stories (tv, movies, etc.) I’m breaking down my Top Ten Favorite TV Shows, in no particular order.

1. Fringe

-Confession: I haven’t actually watched the very last episode. I’m planning to rewatch the last season..eventually.

2. Parks and Recreation

-Just consistently funny from start to finish.

3. Firefly

-Finally got around to watching it this year…so good!

4. Games of Thrones

-Nothing much to be said here.

5. Battlestar Galactica (reboot)

-I only have a few more episodes of this, but this is definitely one of my very favorite shows, though it’s often dark and intense.

6. The League

-The boyfriend got me into this one. Why else would I have started watching a show about Fantasy Football when I don’t even like football? But it’s not really about football, mostly just a bunch of dudes trash-talking each other. Super funny.

7. The Office (U.S.)

-Finally watched the last season last week and man were those last couple episodes before the finale good!

8. Shameless (U.S.)

-I’m only on season two, but I’m really enjoying this one!

9. True Detective

-Only one season in, but it was killer.

10. The O.C.

-Hands up: who didn’t wish they lived in their own pool house in California after watching this one?

Honorable Mentions:

11. Gossip Girl

-Deliciously glitzy fun. Even if I still haven’t watched the second half of the last season.

12. Heroes

-This show had really great potential, even if it got away from that. Still haven’t watched the last season.

13. Pretty Little Liars

-It may not be great tv, but it sure is entertaining.

What do you think of my picks? What are some of your favorite shows?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Things on My Bookish Bucket List

As always TTT is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s topics: top ten things on my bookish bucket list.

1. Hit 500 blog followers — this will likely happen very soon and when it does…watch for a GIVEAWAY!

2. Meet John Green

3. If I ever publish my book about Tesla, I want the Oatmeal to talk about me…write a comic, mention me to his readers, something… (this might not be bookish, but it kind of fits)

4. Read 100 books in one year…I think this is kind of impossible with a full-time job and you know, activities that aren’t reading

5. Go to a book conference/fair and come home with a suitcase full of free books

6. Finish all the books I own

7. Meet Carlos Ruiz Zafon

8. Meet Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

9. Get a book I write on a blog book release tour

10. Hit 1,000 blog followers (which I’m sure will also have its own mega giveaway or something

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Places to Read

As always, TTT is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s topic was a REWIND, so I chose the past topic of favorite places to read.

1. Couch: I probably read here 90% of the time.

2. Bed: I always try and read just a few pages before bed. I don’t read in bed all that much, because being in my bed at all causes me to fall asleep.

3. Coffee Shops: I love being within literal feet of tasty drinks and treats.

4. Libraries: Sooo easy to concrete here, because it’s so silent.

5. Airplanes: I hate flying. Both the actual plane-in-the-air part and the whole experience of it, so the one bright spot I can always look forward to it plugging in my headphones and tearing through some major pages.

6. Beach: I like the beach, but I almost always find the water too cold. I love laying out with a book, even though it’s kind of hard to find a comfortable spot.

7. Pool: Pretty much the same as above.

8. The back office at work: Thirty minutes to do what I want and why not spend in reading a good book?

9. Really anywhere outside: I love the feeling of the sun warming my face and hair as I get lost in a book.

10. Waiting in line: Makes everything go by so much faster.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Reasons I Love Being a Blogger

As always, TTT is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s topic: top ten reasons I love being a book blogger.

1. Having somewhere to direct people who need book recommendations (one of the reasons I started in the first place!)

2. Guest-blogging! (I want to do more! If you do guest blogging, send me an email!)

3. All of the awesome people I’ve met through my blog

4. Learning new things about people I already know based on shared (or not-shared) book preferences

5. Getting the 411 on new books early from people who get ARCs and/or attend book conferences

6. The book blogging community is so, sooo nice

7. Having a readership of people from all over the world (it’s seriously so cool looking at your stats and seeing people from Russia, Brazil, India, China, logging on and seeing my words!)

8. Doing fun weekly memes like Top Ten Tuesday

9. Getting to participate in Book Exchange Secret Santas

10. Having a place to write down my thoughts and keep track of everything I read

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Things on my Reading Wishlist

As always, TTT is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s topic: top ten things on my reading wishlist. These are topics I wish authors would write about, settings, time periods, etc.

1. 1890-1900 time period: It’s a time period I’m dealing with now in my own writing and I wish there was more to read that showed how different authors dealt with this period.

2. Colorado: There aren’t a lot of books set in Colorado

3. Dystopian societies: All dystopia, all the time

4. Genetic engineering: Especially in humans…I just find it so fascinating!

5. Atlantis: I love books that deal with the lost city!

6. Egypt: I really enjoy books set in Egypt

7. Modern/ historical thrillers: Think DaVinci Code…someone finds a lost relic, mystery, etc. from hundreds of years ago and things get crazy.

8. Animal evolution: I love books that deal with animals other suddenly evolving into something new or someone discovering an animal that has evolved on its own, somewhere deep in the jungle, that is intelligent and/or human like.

9. Anything that feels slightly Gothic in tone or style. It may be over-the-top by today’s standards, but I love it.

10. Boarding school setting: I just find it so interesting!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Goals for 2014
