Reading Spaces: Home Office Window Seat

If I worked from home, I would definitely want my office to include a dedicated reading space. Preferably a window seat. Not only would I want the option (or temptation) to break up the work day with a little reading, but let’s be honest: have laptop, will travel. For most of us, we don’t really need a desk to do our work. Okay, maybe my back would not be happy with me working all day, every day curled up in a window seat, but once in awhile? Hell yes!

It’s also incredibly space-efficient to enclose the bookshelves and the window seat within the office to create a multi-use space. Out in California where space (including office space) comes at a premium, it just makes sense to create these kind of hardworking rooms within your home.

Reading Spaces: Hammock Lounging

Hammocks are one of those things that sound better in theory than they really are. I used to always wish for a hammock to lounge around in and then when we finally got one, I discovered I didn’t like it all that much. For one thing, you keep it outside usually so the bugs and spiders get all over it. For another thing, it’s outside so you have to remember to keep reapplying the sunscreen and hope you don’t fall in sleep in it and wake up a lobster. But. There is something very romantic about the idea of spending a lazy summer afternoon reading in a hammock. And with the 4th of July, the height of summer right around the corner, this week’s Reading Spaces is dedicated to the humble and romantic hammock, no matter how impractical they may actually turn out to be!

Reading Spaces: Hallway Book Storage

This week’s Reading Spaces isn’t so much about a reading space as it is about ideas for book storage. Put your hallways to use and squeeze in some built-ins! Several years ago I worked for a psychologist who had tons of books in his home. Books on books on books! Seeing these ideas for hallway storage remind me of that house which had knowledge stuffed into every spare corner – perfection!

Reading Spaces: Rainbow Bookshelves

I’ve always liked how it looks to organize spaces by color, whether it’s clothes in the closet or books on the shelves. The fact that the books wouldn’t be organized by title or author doesn’t bother me. I have the Kallax bookshelf from ikea so I’ve loosely organized each cubby by books I’ve read and books I haven’t….and then stacked them like tetris so I can get as many as possible in my bookcase. So, organizing books by color wouldn’t bother me at all! This week’s Reading Spaces feature is dedicated to rainbow bookshelves!

Reading Spaces: White Libraries

My future future home goals definitely include a dedicated library – which may or may not include one of those rolling ladders! I’m pretty obsessed with white homes so this week’s Reading Spaces feature is dedicated to clean, white home libraries!

Reading Spaces: Coastal Window Seats

My mom and I have always harbored a not-so-secret desire to come into possession of a house with a window seat. So it’s only fitting that I begin my new series, Reading Spaces, with a round-up of amazing window seats! When I’m not reading or writing, I’m busy with my day job – working in real estate! I see tons of beautiful spaces (and pictures of beautiful spaces) so it seemed like a natural fit to start posting my favorite reading spaces on my blog. All images can be found on Houzz, where you can get information about photo credits, contractors, products, and more. And if you have your own Houzz account, you can follow me too! I hope you enjoy my weekly series, Reading Spaces! For this week’s post, I’ve collected some of my favorite coastal looks – because the only thing better than a book and a window seat, is a book, a window seat, and a view!
