This enlightening and amusing story illustrates the vital importance of being able to deal with unexpected change. Who Moved My Cheese? is often distributed by managers to employees as a motivational tool, but the lessons it teaches can benefit literally anyone, young or old, rich or poor, looking for less stress and more success in every aspect of work and life.
My boyfriend recommended that I read this book some time ago. I dutifully wrote it down on my Amazon wishlist and that was that. I like to think of myself as a forward looking person who’s excited by new opportunities, but the truth is, too much change or a too many big, substantial changes, make me want to curl up in a ball and wait for it to be over.
My work decided to start a book club and this was the book we chose to start with it. When it arrived in the mail, I saw how short it was and wondered why I spent so long not going out and reading this book.
And after I read it, I had the same thought. What took me so long?
Everyone knows change is good and inevitable and it’s bad to resist it. But it’s easy to kind of set those thoughts aside. Like everyone knows french fries are bad for you and looking at the computer before bed makes you have trouble sleeping, but it’s too convenient sometimes to do what’s bad for us then what’s right for us.
Enter Who Moved My Cheese? Told in an accessible, easy-to-read style, I can imagine that the next time I find myself resisting a change, this story will creep me back to me, and I’ll start scolding myself. “Do you want to be a Hem do you? Remember what happened to Hem?”
This book is about 90 pages, the fastest read ever, and pretty much life-changing. Just go read it already.
